Untangling From Fear Uncertainty + Doubt

The Perfect Woman Imperative: Coffee Chat With Laurena Law on The Wellness Doctors Podcast

< back to blog home

Years ago, I thought that figuring out my purpose was all about finding the “one” career path that I was destined to pursue.

This belief led me to explore what potential career paths I “should” pivot into so that I could justify quitting the job I didn’t love (but that looked great on paper).

I looked to books, articles, and experts on how to find your purpose….which at the time I thought was your career.

Side note: your purpose isn’t your career…for some people a career can be a beautiful expression of your purpose….but it’s not necessary to pursue your purpose in your work. I’ve got a lot to say on this and you can check out my blog post on that over here

But let’s bring it back to you now….

If you’re not happy with your work or

If you feel like you’re in the wrong place or

If you’re simply doubting if what you’re doing is really right for you….

The best place to start isn’t changing companies, industries or jumping into a business…

Looking outside of yourself to a different “thing” to complete you will only set you up to fail.

Please trust me on this.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t make decisions and take action.

What I am saying is that you’ve got to dive deep first….to understand what’s really going on BEFORE you take action.

The best place to start when you’re unsure of your path and at a crossroads is understanding this core truth: there’s nothing wrong with you.

I repeat: There’s NOTHING wrong with you.

We simply live in a culture that tells us what we “should” be and what “success” should look like….which I call “The Perfect Woman Imperative.”

When who you are and what you define as successful isn’t aligned to the cultural narrative, then naturally something will feel “off”….

Recently I sat down with my long time friend Dr. Laurena Law, and we jammed on her podcast about this very thing.

We talked about our own journey’s of leaving behind set career paths to pursue something more meaningful….and what’s really going on when we find ourselves stuck and at a loss as to where to go next.

Laurena is a phenomenal functional medicine doctor and passionate about a holistic approach to healing…and her podcast with her colleague Dr. Vanessa Wong, The Wellness Doctors, is a phenomenal resource if you’re desiring to understand how to be healthy and well holistically.

Come and check out the podcast episode where we talk about how The Perfect Woman Imperative stops us from saying yes to who we are and what we desire to share in the world.
